Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly do you do?
I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC). The role of the PMHNP is the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various psychiatric disorders. This primarily involves the prescribing and managing of psychiatric medication based on evidence-based practice data and your individual needs.
Additionally, supportive therapy may be incorporated into our sessions. This may include cognitive-behavioral strategies, solution-focused problem solving, lifestyle education, and coping skill identification. I also utilize natural supplementation (e.g., vitamins, minerals) and mind-body approaches when appropriate (e.g., meditation strategies, relaxation, grounding techniques).
Who do you treat/Who can book with you?
I see children, adolescents, and adults and treat anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). If you have a problem that is not listed here, you can still book an appointment request.
I encourage any individual that is interested in my services to please book with me. Each appointment request will be considered on a case-by-case basis regardless of age, gender, history, etc. I offer both online and in-office visits, whichever you prefer.
Please note: As a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Missouri, I am only eligible to see individuals located in Missouri. The majority of my bookings are virtual and conducted via tele-health/video conference. For in-person visits, my office is located in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
How long are appointments?
Time is essential, and having enough of it is a vital aspect of high-quality mental health care. This is why appointment times at Sunny Day Psychiatry are longer than what may be considered typical elsewhere.
Appointment duration is up to 60 minutes for a new patient visit and 30 minutes for follow-up visits. However, if you would like to book additional time, you can do so!
No more rushing through your visits and instead, more time for you to share your story, express your feelings and concerns, ask questions, and discuss treatment recommendations.
Do you take insurance? What are the costs?
To ensure complete focus on providing personalized and comprehensive care, Sunny Day Psychiatry is out-of-network, meaning we do not bill through any insurance plan.
This allows more freedom regarding the frequency and duration of your visits and shifts the focus back to your unique needs rather than insurance companies dictating the requirements and limitations of your care.
Initial intake (new patient) appointments are priced at $250. Subsequent follow-up visits are priced at $125. A credit card on file is a requirement in order to book an appointment but you will NOT be charged until the time of service.
Insurance-ready statements, often called superbills, are available after each visit that states the services provided, which can be used for out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance plan.
Do you provide therapy?
While therapy is not the primary service provided at Sunny Day Psychiatry, brief supportive therapy may be a component of your appointment based on your individual needs. This is generally incorporated naturally into our visits and may involve cognitive-behavioral techniques, challenging negative thought patterns, coping skill identification, and more.
For extensive therapy-only or specialized therapy services (e.g., grief, trauma, eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy) it is recommended that you seek the expertise of a dedicated therapist who can provide further guidance and support. I would be happy to assist you in finding someone or provide a referral.
